The 3rd Asian
Indoor Championship concluded in Doha on 16 February 2008 with a
distinctive organizational performance. The successful event was
hosted by QAAF in Aspire Academy during 14-16 February where the
opening ceremony marked its excellence and was attended by the Vice
President of Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Saoud Bin Ali Al-Thani,
and HE Dahlan Al-Hamad President of QAAF and head of organizing
committee, as well as many other dignitaries and VIPs. The opening
ceremony welcomed also huge numbers of spectators and fans.
The competitions were launched while Asian records started
to be achieved by the participating champions. Men athletes achieved
9 Asian records, including two by Qatari athletes; (in the 60 m
event by Samuel Francis: 6, 62 seconds, and in the 1500m event by
Thamir Ali Kamal: 3, 40, 86).
In women events, 10 Asian records were achieved where
Bahrain’s Rugaya Al-Gasra managed to guarantee 3 of them, two in the
400m event (54:12 s, 53, 28 s), and one in the 60m event (7: 40s).
The high jump
event witnessed also an Asian record achieved by Saudi Arabia’s
Mohamed Al-Khweidli (4:28m), where the previous indoor Asian record
was (8:23m).
The 3rd Asian Indoor Championship concluded when
Mr. Khalid Almeer, Vice President of QAAF and director of the
championship, descended the flag of the championship and handed it
to HE Dahlan Al-Hamad Preside of QAAF.
At the end of the championship, HE Dahlan Al-Hamad
delivered a speech in which he thanked all the participants,
athletes, volunteers, media staffs, spectators, guests, members of
the organizing committee and referees. Below is a table of the Asian
