  Stage set for Asian Indoor athletic meet on February 14  
  Doha , February 10,2008- Big time athletics event awaits Doha when the Third Asian Indoor Athletics Championships will be held at Aspire Zone from February 14 to 16.

Being organised by Qatar Association of Athletic Federation, the biggest extravaganza being held for the first time indoors will excite the local spectators.

Briefing newspersons on Saturday afternoon, Brigadier Dahlan Hamad said after the successful hosting of the 15th Asian games in Doha in December 2006, the games organisation standards are now quite high.

Brigadier Dahlan who was the key person to work for the hosting of the World Indoor Athletics Championship in 2010 in Doha said Qatar has a moral duty towards Asia and being host for 31 nations all across the Asia will be another great challenge for which QAAF is ready.

Brig. Dahlan said this championship will also give another opportunity for the athletes of Asia to stake their claim for the World Indoor Athletics championship to be held next month.

Brig Dahlan said on February 13, the Asian Athletic Federation will have its council meeting at 5 pm at Hotel Ramada where many important decisions are going to take place.

He said till Saturday, the total number of participants in men stood at 166 and for women it is 75. Qatar will field 16 men and four women participants.

Brig. Dahlan disclosed that to attract local population, various publicity plans were launched and they have made tie up with various schools, both Government, expatriate to bring children so that they develop interest in athletics.
