Qatari athletes fetch one gold, one bronze
in 3rd Asian Indoor Athletics Championship |

Doha, February 15, 2008 -
Qatar athletics team have clinched two medals on the first day of
the third edition of Asian Indoor Athletics Championship
which began on Thursday at Aspire. The tournament will conclude on
February 16.
On the first day's evening competitions, the Qatar's sprinter
Francis Samuel secured gold medal in 60 m competition and recorded
6.62 minutes, while his compatriot Al Mannai Rashid clinched bronze
medal in high jump competition and recorded no. 2.18 m.
HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Ali Al Thani, vice president of Qatar Olympic
Committee inaugurated on Thursday, February 14 the opening ceremony
of the third edition of Asian Indoor Athletics Championship's
competitions which are taking place from 14-16 February at Aspire
Zone, in Doha, Qatar.
Mr. Dahalan Al Hamad, President of QAAF, and chairman of
tournament's organizing committee addressed the attendance at the
opening ceremony and asserted that achievements executed in Qatar
sport came due to unlimited support granted by HH Sheikh Hamad bin
Khalifa Al Thani, Amir of State of Qatar, and HH Sheikh Tamim Bin
Hamad Al Thani, Heir Apparent and president of Qatar Olympic
Committee. Earlier the opening ceremony enthralled the Doha
residents and participants
