PATTAYA: Thamer Kamal Ali, Al Badri Salam Amer and Abubaker Ali Kamal made history of sorts as they became the first Qatari athletes to win medals at the inaugural Asian Indoor Games here in Bangkok.

Ali picked up the gold medal in the 3,000 metres race while his team-mate Kamal secured the bronze, finish third in the same race.

The third medal for Qatar came through Amer, who clinched a silver in the men’s 800 metres.

In futsal, Iran trounced Qatar 11-0 to advance into the semi-finals.

Iran led 5-0 at half-time and added another six goals in the second half.
