  IAAF EXAMINES QATAR’S PREPARATIONS TO HOST WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP AND ANNOUNCES: QATAR ENJOYS HIGH FINANCIAL AND TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Qatar Athletics Federation welcomed the delegation of International Association of Athletics Federations that visited Doha on 6/11/2007 to view and examine the technical and administrative preparations implemented by Qatar which requested to host the World Indoor Athletics Championship 2010. The delegation representing IAAF included: Mr. Pierefese, secretary general of IAAF, and Mr. Hanz George, President of the European Athletics Association.


The delegation first visited Qatar Olympic Committee and met with its secretary general Sheikh Saoud bin Abdul Rahman Al-thani who welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed Qatar’s interest and willingness to host such international vents. The meeting was attended also by: Mr. Dahalan Alhamad (president of QAAF), Mr. Khalid Abdullah Almeer (QAAF vice president), and Mr. Abdullah Alzeini (QAAF secretary general).

The visiting delegation had a meeting at 8:30 AM with Qatari officials in Qatar Athletics Association. The meeting was attended also by the head and members of bidding file committee in Qatar:

1- HE Dahlan Al-Hamad President
2- Mr. Khalid Almeer Vice President
3- Mr. Abdullah Alzeini Secretary General
4- Mrs. Ahlam Almane Board Member
5- Dr. Jabbar Al-Kaabi Technical Secretary
6- Mr. Ali Salim Representative of Al-Jazeera Sports Channel
7- Mr. Yosuf Alobeidli Representative of Al-Jazeera Sports Channel

The two parties discussed various technical and administrative procedures and steps regarding accommodation, transport, budgets, and international broadcasting. Later on, the delegation was accompanied to visit Aspire Zone where the event is supposed to be held.

The technical affairs officials provided the IAAF delegation with all the required details and answered all the technical enquires. The delegates expressed their admiration and satisfaction in the surveying review by Qatar’s technical experts. The international standards of Aspire also appealed to the visitors and increased their knowledge on Qatar’s resources and capabilities. The survey included the halls and main stadium as well as the results screens available in Aspire. Moreover, the specialized hospital attached was visited to check the latest apparatuses available and medical care equipments.

Another meeting was later on held in the diplomatic club where all further details and issues were discussed. HE Dahlan Al-Hamad along with the technical staff explained to the IAAF visiting delegation all required information regarding Qatari preparations to host this international event of World Indoor Athletics Championship 2010.
