Qatari
athletes
managed to prove their high performance levels
during the 11th Arab Games held in
Egypt during November 2007. In the shot-put
event, Qatar’s Khalid Habash Al-Sweidi seized
the gold medal recording 19.56m, while Saudi
Arabia’s Alhabashi claimed the silver medal
(19.53m), and the bronze medal went to Egypt
(19.42m).
In the 20km walk race, the silver medal was gained by Qatar’s Mabrook recording (1.40 .34.3), while the gold medal was seized by Tunis and the bronze one went to Algeria.
The 10000m event witnessed a Qatari achievement when Sultan Zaman claimed the silver medal despite the early expectations by experts that he was nominated for the gold medal. The fifth rank was also occupied by Qatar when Ahmed Hassan Abdullah reached fifth.
The women athletes represented Qatar could prove
good performances during the heats and
preliminaries, like Sheikha Saqar in the 100m
event (13.48),
and jamila Khamis as well as Fatima Almaliki in
the shot-put event.
Mr. Khalifa Abdulmalik, head of Qatari athletics
delegation, expressed his optimism in Qatari
athletes and results during preliminaries. He
emphasized that Qatari athletics champions
proved the high reputation that their country
bears in the world of athletics.
The champion Khalid Habash Al-Sweidi also
expressed the impact of his victory on him and
his performance level now and for future events.
It is worth notice that Khalid Habash managed to
retain his gold medal seizing as he did four
years ago in the previous edition of the Arab
Games in Algeria.
