The Qatari athletics juniors’ team managed to achieve brilliant results in the Asian Championship that was held in the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta, during 12-15 June 2008. It is worth mentioning that Qatar participated with only nine athletes, yet they managed to dominate the second rank at the final ranking order of men and the fourth rank at the ranking order of 23 participating countries.
Excellent Participation and Useful Experience
This championship represented an ideal opportunity for the participation of some Qatari junior athletes who benefited from interaction and competitiveness. It assisted them to improve their physical and psychological levels as well as increasing their self-confidence to achieve better results in future events.
Wide Participation Levels
The 13th Asian Championship witnessed a wide level of participation where 600 athletes (men and women) competed representing 36 countries. Indonesia, the host country, participated with 50 athletes while China came second in terms of participants 43 athletes then India in the third position with 42 athletes. Qatar participated through nine athletes in different events for the sake of interaction and experience acquisition. Their ages, however, were between 16 and 19 years.
Qatari Athletes Prepared Well for the Arab Championship
Qatari athletics junior stars took part in the same month, June, in Tunis where the Arab Championship for Juniors was held during 20-23 June 2008. This championship represents an important stage for future preparations to seize medals and bring Qatar excellent results such as the Arab Championship and World Juniors Championship in Poland during July.
