Mr. Khalid
Almeer,
the vice president of Qatar
Athletics Federation’s Board
and director of athletics
competitions in the 15th
Asian Games, held several
meetings with the officials
in charge of the two
headquarters of major
athletics events, i.e.,
Khalifa stadium and Doha Bay
(Cornish). The meetings
focused on the final touches
regarding the preparations
to the launch of the events.
Mr. Almeer discussed with
the officials in these two
sites all the preparation
aspects, namely, the
provision of equipments and
services before the start of
the competitions period:
8-12 December 2006. He
emphasized on spending more
efforts to reflect the high
performance skills in
organization that Qatar
reached in such big sports
events.
Moreover, Mr. Khalid Almeer
has declared that Qatar
Athletics Federation
implemented all the required
preparations to welcome more
than 600 men and women
athletes who represent 41
countries to participate in
the athletics competitions
during the 15th Asian Games,
Doha-2006. He, also, stated
that the Qatar Athletics
Federation is determined to
provide the participants
with the best services
through the commissions
which were formed
particularly for such
respects.
Three special venues were
allocated for training;
Qatar Stadium (capability:
267 men and women athletes
from 21 countries), Al-Arabi
Stadium (capability: 266 men
and women athletes from 20
countries), Qatar University
Stadium (capability: 90 men
and women athletes). Qatar
and Al-Arabi stadiums are
allocated to cover the
trainings in running, jump,
marathon, and walk events,
while training for throwing
events will be done on
grounds of Qatar University
Stadium.
It is worth notice that the
Cornish area is going to
witness the walk events for
men and women athletes at
8:10 AM on 7/12/2006. The
men marathon event, on the
other hand, will be
organized on 9/12/2006 at
9:10 AM, while the women
marathon event would be at
9:10 AM on 10/12/2006. All
other athletics events,
however, would be organized
during 8-12 December at
Khalifa Stadium. The
competitions are going to be
held in two timings;
mornings at 9 o’clock and
evenings at 3 o’clock.
Various commissions,
however, have been already
formed by the Qatar
Athletics Federation to run
the competitions during the
Asian Games. These
commissions included: Mr.
Khalid Almeer, vice
president of the Qatar
Athletics Federation’s
Board, as director of
competitions. Three other
operations directors have
been appointed; Dr. Jabar
Alkaabi, Ahmed Altinani, and
Yaqoub Yosuf. Mr. Abdullah
Alzayni has been appointed
as the director of services,
supervising 28 accompanying
staff members. Mr. Khalifa
Yusof Abdulmalik has been
appointed as the director of
technical operations,
supervising 167 staff
members. Mr. Ahmed
Alrumayhi, on the other
hand, has been appointed as
the director of results,
with 25 staff members under
his supervision. Finally,
the position of chief of
referees commission has been
assigned to Mr. Abdulhakim
Mohamed Alomari, supervising
156 specialized referees.
