The Qatar Athletics
Federation held a reception
ceremony to the athletics
VIPs and guests in Doha
during the organization of
the 15th Asian Games-Doha
2006. This ceremony was
attended by the President of
the International
Association of Athletics
Federations, Mr. Lamin Diac,
and the President of the
Asian Athletics Federation
as well as a number of
presidents of Asian and Arab
athletics federations. The
date of holding this
ceremony was 10/12/2006 in
the Diplomatic Club.
H.E. Dahlan Alhamad, the
President of Qatar Athletics
Federation, welcomed the
attendants in Doha and
expressed his pleasure to
meet the leaders as well as
the stars of athletics in
Doha. He wished the
participants the best of
luck and success in the 15th
Asian Games-Doha 2006.
The President of the
International Association of
Athletics Federations in his
speech also forwarded his
best wishes of success to
all participants and
expressed his admiration of
the best organization of
Asian Games referring to the
legendry opening ceremony
which he finds better than
some Olympic Games events.
He, also, referred to the
competitive nature of the
Doha 2006 Asian Games
providing the example of
Qatari gold medal
achievement in the 1500m
event though it was
nominated to be seized by
Bahrain, while the opposite
happened in the event of
10000m where everybody
expected Qatar to seize the
title but Bahrain could
achieve it. This instance,
indeed, was provided by the
President of the
International Association of
Athletics Federations to
emphasize the
competitiveness that the
Asian Games witnessed in
Doha and surpassed all
expectations especially in
Athletics events. Mr. Lamin
Diac expressed his happiness
for being in Doha to witness
the competitions of the 15th
Asian Games- Doha 2006. He,
also, referred to the next
elections of IAAF and said
that the Asian continent
realizes that IAAF supports
all national federations
impartially. Moreover, he
focused on the anti-doping
issue and the necessity to
prohibit it completely.
Finally, the ceremony
witnessed several bilateral
dialogues focused on the
international and Asian
athletics scenes. H.E.
Dahaln Alhamad, Mr. Khalid
Almeer and a number of board
directors from Qatar
Athletics Federation had
fruitful talks with the
participating delegates to
emphasize on various
cooperation and coordination
issues for the near future
stage.
