DOHA –
Allyson Felix of USA became the real
sprint queen at Doha on Friday when she stole
the hearts of thousands of spectators by winning
two gold medal each in 100 metres and 400 metres
in the Qatar Super Grand Prix 2007 at Suhaim Bin
Hamad Stadium. True to her commitment on Thursday before the media when she promised to give her best, the 21-year-old gave her personal best in 400 metres with timings of 50.40 second which was also a new meet record and improved the world lead.
The silver medalist of the of 2004 Athens Olympics Felix who had been once nick named 'Chicken legs' dogged past Lauryn Williams who came poor fourth. She had a close second with Sheri Am Brooks of Jamaica, while Bahrain’s sprinter and fancied Rugaya Al-Gassra came third at photofinish and deprived of silver medal.
On Thursday, Felix told QNOC that injuries did hampered her performance last year, but she was determined to give her best which she did before the enthusiastic fans. Now she got much time to do her training, endurance and speed work and was aiming for another feat in Osaka World championships next August.
Felix had told that after Doha, she will have more than three months to rest, train and then get ready for the Osaka show. Her another winning target would be the next year's Beijing Olympics. She expressed her gratitude to her parents for grooming her to this level and whose guidance has been a great help to her both physically and mentally, said Felix. She was of the view that for any athlete to reach at peak, it is advisable to take care and prevent injuries coming in.
