The
Qatari
promising star Waleed Ahmed Al-Sabahi splendidly
seized a bronze medal in the Arab Athletics
Championship in the 20 km race. The Arab
Athletics Championship, which was held in Jordan
during May, witnessed he participation of
featured Arab athletes. Waleed Ahmed Al-Sabahi
claimed bronze after consuming a time that
reached 1:36:13. The gold medal, on the other hand, was embraced by Tunis’s Hasanin Alsibayi (1:26:13), while the silver medal went to Algeria’s Hisham Mijber (1:35:12). It is worth notice that Tunis’s Alsibayi recorded a new result in this event and he was also the title winner of the 2005 version (1:28:18). Moreover, the ex-holder of the Arab record achieved in 1997 (1:19:02) was Tunis’s Hatem Ghola. In the present version, however, Al-Sabahi and Mijber managed to improve their results in comparison with the previous versions of this championship. Eight athletes participated in this event where only five of them reached the finish line.
In the women events, Hanan Ohado of Morocco claimed the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase discipline recording (9:53:28), while her local competitor Bushra Alshabi reached after (10:06:54) embracing silver and leaving bronze to Jordan’s Bara’a Marwan who consumed (12:00:56) to finish the event.
