    QAAF Concludes the Sports Season of 2006-2007

QAAF
concluded its sports season 2006-2007 by holding a conclusion ceremony on 8/6/2007 at Almajlish Hall in the Doha Sheraton Hotel. During this ceremony, rewarding events were organized in relation to successes achieved in 2006-2007 as well as success of Qatar Super Grand-Prix which was organized last May.

At the beginning of the ceremony, H.E. Brigadier General Dahlan Al-Hamad welcomed the attending organizing staffs, coaches; athletes press staff, and officials. He thanked the committees and volunteers who assisted in organizing successfully the Asian Games in Doha and Qatar Super Grand-Prix.

Mr. Al-Hamad added that he appreciates especially the efforts done by the vice president Mr. Khalid Almeer who managed the planning carefully for local and international events. Such efforts by QAAF brought to Qatar 163 new records in various disciplines of athletics. Achieving such results, indeed, refer to the level of development reached in Qatar athletics scene. Also, Mr. Al-Hamad thanked the military chiefs for their vital roles and support to host the military competitions like the GCC championships that Doha recently hosted.

Dahlan Al-Hamad then empathically referred to the great support and generous care provided to the Qatari athletes and athletics by H.H. the Emir as well as H.H. the Heir Apparent, as it is with their generous encouragement by increasing the clubs’ budgets.

Moreover, H.E. Al-Hamad explained how QAAF spent all efforts to promote athletics among the pupils of schools in Qatar, due to the importance of this issue in the considerations of QAAF. He referred to the coordination among the working commissions of QAAF and the Ministry of Education in Qatar. Al-Hamad stated that the athletics promotional program during the next year would be bigger and more comprehensive by holding sports festivals and local events for schools boys and girls. He also referred to the launch of QAAF official website as well as QAAF athletics magazine which appealed highly to the International Association of Athletics Federations.

As far as the coming missions to be run by QAAF, H.E. Dahlan Al-Hamad explained that Qatar will organize the Doha Marathon next year, Athletics Indoor Championship in 2011, as well as the annual commitments to host Qatar Athletics Super Grand-Prix in next May and other events as well.

In reference
to the transparent policy adopted by QAAF, H.E. stated that QAAF is fully ready to receive any comments and suggestions to be discussed for the benefit of athletics development in Qatar. He emphasized that such policy is part of QAAF’s aims. “We encourage the presentation of any developmental ideas and suggestions if they are appropriately provided and not through accusations or inappropriate criticism.”, Mr. Dahlan Al-Hamad added. He assured that QAAF formed a committee for the athletes’ issues to discuss any problems or complaints and to solve them, as QAAF believes that more minds think better than one in order to develop athletics more in Qatar.

His Excellency Brigadier General Dahlan Al-Hamad concluded his speech by thanking all the staffs of the working commissions in QAAF and the board members. He also congratulated Al-Sadd Sports Club for wining the shield of excellence in this year.

Finally, H.E. Dahlan Al-Hamad and his vice Mr. Almeer awarded prizes and reward certificates to administrative personnel, athletes, coaches, media personnel, Score Co. (the official sponsor of the local championships), Aljazeera Sports Channel (the official broadcasting channel of Qatar Super Grand-Prix), and all the working commissions.
