Qatar’s
delegation of young male and female athletes
returned to Doha on 1/7/2007 from Syria where
they participated there in the 2nd Arab
Championship during 27-29 June 2007.
Qatar achieved the 6th rank among 14 participating countries in this championship by seizing 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals. The 1st rank, however, was dominated by Syria by wining 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze, while Saudi Arabia came 2nd after achieving 2 gold and 2 silver. Egypt, moreover, ranked 3rd by wining 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze, and Tunis came 4th by wining 2 gold medals. The 5th rank was achieved by Kuwait with 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.
The only gold medal gained by Qatar was through Gabriel Hikmat Khan in the 10 km walk race, while the silver medal was seized by Salman Almanae in the high jump event, and the three bronze medals by Mohamed Almane (pole jump), Maath Abdulrahman (2000 walk) and Oday Amer (hummer).
The Qatari female participations could not seize medals due to their limited experience and new participations in competitions abroad. However, such participation added more to their juvenile experience and will absolutely develop their performance in coming championships. It is worth notice that Ameen Almaliki and Mouza Maarige participated in the 100m event, while Sheikh Ali and Mouza Maarige participated in the high jump event.
